Character Stats

Character is a card type. Every character has a fate cost (fate), military skill (military), political skill (Political), and a glory value (glory).[1]

Characters are the only card type which can appear in the dynasty deck or the conflict deck. Characters in conflict decks can have influence (Influence) marks.

crab Pious Guardian Bushi. 2 3 1 1 Rally. (After this card is revealed in a province, add the top card of your dynasty deck to the province faceup.)
Interrupt: When the conflict phase ends, if you control 1 or fewer broken provinces – gain 1 honor.
lion Persuasive Counselor Courtier. 4 3 4 2 Action: During a conflict in which this character is participating – each event you play during this conflict cannot have its effects canceled.
crane Perfect Guest Courtier. 2 1 3 1 Action: Choose another player – that player gains control of this character and cannot trigger this ability this round.
dragon Perceptive Kitsuki Courtier. 2 1 2 2 Action: During a conflict in which this character is participating,return a ring in your claimed ring pool to the unclaimed ring pool – look at your opponent's hand.
crane Paragon of Grace Bushi. Courtier. 3 2 3 1 Action: During a conflict in which this character is participating on your side alone – your opponent chooses and discards 1 card from his or her hand. If this character is honored, that card is chosen at random instead.
scorpion Palace Guard Bushi. Imperial. 1 2 0 1 This character cannot be declared as an attacker against a less honorable player than you.
phoenix Pacifist Philosopher Courtier. 2 1 1 Reaction: After a player passes on declaring a conflict – gain 1 fate. (Limit twice per round.)
unicorn Outskirsts Sentry Bushi. Scout. 1 2 0 Reaction: After a character is moved to the conflict in which this character is participating, choose a participating character – honor that character.
crane Origami Master Shugenja. Air. 4 1 4 1 Pride.
Action: Choose another character you control – move an honored status token from this character to the chosen character.
phoenix Radiant Orator Courtier. 3 1 2 2 Action: While this character is participating in a conflict, if you count more current glory than your opponent among ready participating characters, choose an enemy character – move that character home.
crab One of the Forgotten Bushi. Berserker. 2 4 0 0 You cannnot place fate on this character when it is played from your provinces.
Reaction: After an opponent passes on declaring a conflict, if that opponent controls any ready characters – put 1 fate on this character.
lion Obstinate Recruit Bushi. 0 2 0 0 If an opponent is more honorable than you, discard this character.
dragon Northern Wall Sensei Bushi. 3 2 2 1 Keeper role only.
Action: While this character is participating in a conflict, choose a participating character you control with 1 or more attachments – until the end of the conflict, that character is immune to events.
dragon Niten Master Bushi. 4 3 3 2 Reaction: After you attach a Weapon attachment to this character – ready this character. (Limit twice per round.)
dragon Niten Adept Bushi. 2 2 1 1 Action: While this character is participating in a conflict, bow a (friendly) attachment on it. Choose a participating character without attachments – bow that character.
unicorn Nimble Noyan Bushi. Cavalry. Commander. 3 4 1 1 Keeper role only.
Dire – While this character is participating in a conflict, bowed participating characters contribute their skill toward the resolution of the conflict. (This character is dire when it has no fate on it.)

Reaction: After you claim a ring that matches the element of your role – search the top 5 cards of your conflict deck for a card and add it to your hand. Shuffle.
crab Shadowlands Hunter Bushi. Scout. 2 2 0 0 Each conflict this character wins while attacking is considered to be unopposed.

You may play this character as an attachment on a character you control, reducing its cost to play by 2. If you do, it loses sincerity and gains the text: “Action: During a conflict – move attached character home.”

neutral Seppun Ishikawa Unique Bushi. Imperial. 3 2 2 2 This character gets +1military and +1Political for each other Imperial card you control.
neutral Seppun Hidden Guard Bushi. Imperial. Yōjimbō. 2 2 0 1 Interrupt: When the effects of a character ability that targets a unique character you control would initiate, sacrifice this character – cancel those effects. The player who initiated that ability discards 1 random card from his or her hand.

Action: During a conflict, lose 1 honor. Choose a non-unique character – that character is immune to events until the end of the conflict.
scorpion Reclusive Zokujin Creature. 3 3 1 1 During earth conflicts, this character gains covert and is immune to enemy card effects.
crane Savvy Politician Courtier. 2 1 2 1 Reaction: After this character is honored, choose a character – honor that character.

scorpion Sake House Confidant Courtier. Shinobi. 2 1 1 1 Action: While this character is participating in a conflict, discard the Imperial Favor – each Shinobi character you control gets +2Political until the end of the conflict.
phoenix Sage of Gisei Toshi Courtier. Scholar. 3 1 3 2 Action: During a conflict, if you are more honorable than your opponent, choose a participating character your opponent controls – move this character home. If you do, move that character home.
crane Sadane Student Courtier. 2 1 2 1 This character gets +2Political while you have claimed the air or fire ring.
unicorn Saadiyah al-Mozedu Unique Courtier. Gaijin. Scholar. 3 0 3 2 Sincerity.
Action: Discard a card from your hand and choose an unbroken province not currently being attacked – turn that province facedown.
lion Righteous Samurai Bushi. 3 4 2 2 Reaction: After an opponent's card or ring effect causes you to lose 1 or more honor, choose a character – honor that character.
neutral Righteous Magistrate Courtier. Imperial. Magistrate. 3 3 3 1 Keeper role only.
While this character is defending, players cannot gain or lose honor.
phoenix Righteous Delegate Courtier. 3 2 3 2 Action: While this character is participating in a conflict – each participating Bushi character gets -1 military and -1 Political and each participating non-Bushi character gets +1 military and +1 Political until the end of the conflict.
lion Righteous Akodo Bushi. 1 2 0 1 This character gets +2Political while attacking or defending a province with 1 or more rings claimed on it.
lion Revered Ikoma Courtier. 2 1 2 2 This character cannot receive dishonored status tokens.
Action: If you have gained 2 or more honor this phase – gain 1 fate.

lion Lion's Pride Brawler Bushi. Courtier. 3 3 2 1 Action: While this character is attacking, choose a character with equal or lower military skill than this character – bow that character.
crane Master of the Court Courtier. 4 1 4 1 Covert. (When this character attacks, choose one character without covert. That character cannot be declared as a defender.)
Interrupt: When the effects of an event would initiate, discard an honored status token from this character – cancel those effects.
dragon Master of Many Lifetimes Monk. Tattooed. 5 4 4 1 Seeker role only.

Interrupt: When a character you control would leave play, choose a facedown province you control - put that character into that province instead, adding each attachment on it to its owner's hand.
phoenix Master of Gisei Toshi Shugenja. Earth. 4 2 4 1 Reaction: After the conflict phase begins, chose a ring – while that ring is contested this phase, non-Spell events cannot be played.
scorpion Master Whisperer Courtier. 3 2 3 1 Support. (Another player may help pay this card's fate cost.)
Action: Choose a player – that player discards 3 cards from their hand and draws 3 cards
lion Master Tactician Bushi. Commander. 5 5 5 3 During conflicts in which this character is participating, if there is a Battlefield in play, you may look at and play the top card of your conflict deck as if it were in your hand. You cannot play more than 3 cards per round in this way.
dragon Master Alchemist Shugenja. Fire. 4 3 1 2 Action: During a conflict, spend 1 fate to the fire ring. Choose a character – honor or dishonor that character.
neutral Marauding Oni Oni. Shadowlands. 2 4 0 This character cannot be honored or dishonored.
Forced Reaction: After this character is declared as an attacker or defender – lose 1 honor. (Unlimited.)
neutral Mantis Tenkinja Shugenja. Water. Mantis Clan. 2 1 2 2 Water role only.
Interrupt: When you play an event, lose 1 honor – reduce the cost of that event by 1.
crane Maker of Keepsakes Shugenja. Air. 3 3 3 2 This character cannot receive dishonored status tokens.
dragon Magistrate of Reason Courtier. Magistrate. 4 2 4 1 As an additional cost for your opponent to trigger a character ability during a conflict in which this character is attacking, that opponent must spend 1 fate to an unclaimed ring.
scorpion Loyal Challenger Courtier. Duelist. 2 1 3 0 After this character wins a conflict, gain 1 honor. After this character loses a conflict, lose 1 honor.
Action: During a conflict, initiate a Political duel – resolve the duel. Treat the printed text box of the duel's loser as if it were blank (except for Traits) until the end of the conflict.
crab Kuni Yori Unique Shugenja. Earth. Daimyō. 5 4 4 1 During earth conflicts, each character you control gets +1military and +1Political.
Action: During a conflict, lose 1 honor. Choose a player – that player discards 1 card at random from his or her hand.
crane Masterpiece Painter Courtier. 3 2 4 1 Support. (Another player may help pay this card's fate cost.)
Action: Choose any number of players. – each of those players reveals the top card of their conflict deck. Until the end of the phase, each of those players may play their revealed card as if it were in their hand.
crab Kuni Silencer Monk. 3 4 2 1 Reaction: After this character wins a conflict as the defender – your opponent must return a ring from his or her claimed ring pool to the unclaimed ring pool.
crab Kuni Ritsuko Unique Shugenja. Earth. 4 4 2 1 Reaction: After this character wins a conflict as a defender, choose an attacking character – remove 1 fate from that character.
crab Kuni Purifier Shugenja. Earth. 3 3 3 1 Reaction: After an opponent pases on declaring a conflict – that opponent discards 1 random card from their hand.

dragon Kitsuki Yuikimi Unique Bushi. Champion. 3 3 3 1 Reaction: After you gain a fate from a ring during a conflict in which this character is participating – this character cannot be chosen as the target of your opponent's triggered abilities until the end of the conflict.

Reaction: After a province you control is revealed, name a card – reveal 4 random cards in your opponent’s hand and discard each copy of the named card revealed this way.
lion Kitsu Warrior Bushi. Creature. 4 2 2 0 For each military ring that is claimed, this character gets +2military.
For each Political ring that is claimed, this character gets +2Political.

lion Matsu Agetoki Unique Bushi. Cavalry. Commander. 3 4 2 2 Action: During a conflict in which this character is attacking, if you are more honorable than your opponent – move the contested ring to another elegible province and reveal that province, if able. It is now the attacked province.
unicorn Moto Ariq Unique Bushi. Cavalry. 3 3 2 0 Action: During a conflict in which this character is participating, if your opponent is more honorable than you, he or she must choose a ready character he or she controls – move that character to the conflict.
unicorn Merchant of Curiosities Courtier. Merchant. 1 1 1 1 Action: Discard a card from your hand. Each opponent may give you 1 honor and discard a card from their hand – each player who discards a card this way draws 1 card.
dragon Monastery Protector Monk. Tattooed. 4 3 3 2 No attachments except Monk or Tattoo.
As an additional cost to choose a Tattooed character you control as the target of an event, the opponent playing that event must pay 1 fate.
neutral Miya Satoshi Unique Courtier. Daimyō. Imperial. 4 2 4 2 Action: Discard cards from your dynasty deck until you discard an Imperial card. Then, discard a card in a non-stronghold province you control and put the discarded Imperial card into that province, faceup.

lion Miwaku Kabe Guard Bushi. 1 1 0 2 Pride. (After this character wins a conflict, honor it. After this character loses a conflict, dishonor it.)
dragon Mirumoto Raitsugu Unique Bushi. Duelist. 3 3 2 1 Action: While this character is participating in a conflict, choose a participating character controlled by your opponent – challenge that character to a military duel. If the loser of the duel has no fate on it, discard it. Otherwise remove 1 fate from it.
dragon Mirumoto Prodigy Bushi. Duelist. 2 2 2 1 While this character is attacking alone, your opponent cannot declare more than one defender.
dragon Mirumoto Masashige Unique Bushi. Daimyō. Duelist. 4 4 3 2 Reaction: After the conflict phase begins, if an opponent controls more characters than you, choose a character you control – honor that character.
dragon Mirumoto Hitomi Unique Bushi. Duelist. 4 4 2 1 Action: During a conflict, initiate a military duel against up to two characters your opponent controls — resolve the duel. For each character that loses the duel, its controller must either dishonor or bow it.
dragon Mindful Warrior Bushi. 3 3 2 1 Reaction: After this character wins a conflict, choose a ring in your unclaimed ring pool – switch that ring with a ring claimed on one of your provinces, gaining all fate on it.
unicorn Minami Kaze Regulars Bushi. Army. Cavalry. 5 6 3 2 No attachments except Weapon.
Reaction: After this character wins a conflict in which you have more participating characters than your opponent – gain 1 fate and draw 1 card.
scorpion Midnight Prowler Bushi. Shinobi. 2 2 1 0 Reaction: After this character wins a military conflict – look at the top 2 cards of your opponent's conflict deck. You may discard 1 of those cards.
neutral Mercenary Company Bushi. Rōnin. Army. 4 7 - 0 No attachments except Weapon. Rally.
Forced Reaction: After this character loses a conflict – your opponent may move 1 fate from their fate pool to this character. If they do, they gain control of it. (Unlimited.)
lion Matsu Beiona Unique Bushi. 3 3 2 2 Reaction: After this character enters play, if you control 3 or more other Bushi characters – place 2 fate on this character.
unicorn Meishōdō Wielder Shugenja. Water. 2 2 2 1 Reduce the cost to play this character by 1 while you are the first player.
lion Medium of the Living Soul Shugenja. Water. 2 1 2 1 Action: During a conflict, choose a participating character – until the end of the conflict, that character gains: “Reaction: After you resolve a ring effect during a conflict in which this character is participating, remove 1 fate from this character – resolve that effect again.

lion Matsu Tsuko (TEL) Unique Bushi. Champion. Commander. 5 5 4 3 Reaction: After this character wins a conflict as the attacker against a non-stronghold province, if you are more honorable than your opponent – break the attacked province.
lion Matsu Tsuko Unique Bushi. Berserker. Daimyō. 4 4 3 2 Action: During a conflict in which this character is attacking, if you are more honorable than your opponent – reduce the cost of the next card you play this conflict by 2.
lion Matsu Swiftspear Bushi. 2 2 2 1 While you have fewer cards in your hand than an opponent, this character gets +2military.
