The Shiba family is a samurai family that belongs to the Phoenix Clan. They are the primary source of bushi for the clan.

The Shiba are a warrior family descended from one of the founding Kami, and the Clan Champion is drawn from their ranks. Despite this they have never held a position of leadership in their clan, instead deferring to the Isawa family and their Elemental Council. The reasons for this date back to the First War, when the Kami Shiba knelt before Isawa and swore to protect Isawa and his family forever in order to earn his aid against Fu Leng.
